Sewer Dweller
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Game Overview
SEWER DWELLER is an endless, retro-arcade style underground survival game built using HTML5, CSS, and 3D WebGL graphics powered by the Three.js library. The game features a dark, neon-tinged, and atmospheric aesthetic where players control a unique underwater creature navigating a never-ending descent through flooded, hazardous sewer systems.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
The main objective is to dive as deep as possible, manage resources, and fight off underground threats:
- The Endless Descent: The player continuously swims downward through an procedurally accelerating tunnel. The score is determined by your maximum Depth in meters.
- Survival Elements: You must balance two vital meters:
- Health: Decreases when taking damage from obstacles or when starving.
- Hunger: Drains constantly over time. If your hunger hits zero, you begin to starve and rapidly lose health.
- Feeding & Collecting: Floating scraps are scattered throughout the tunnels. Eating scraps restores hunger, recovers a small amount of health, and awards currency.
- The Black Market (Shop): Players earn a currency known as Credits (◈) based on their depth, scraps collected, and enemies defeated. These credits are spent in a shop to unlock new playable creatures.
Playable Creatures
There are 6 distinct underwater creatures you can unlock and play as, each with unique stats (Speed, Health, Appetite, Reach, Gas Resistance) and a signature Spacebar combat move:
| Creature | Classification | Signature Move | Description |
| Tadpole | Balanced Starter | Bubble Volley | Average stats; fires a 5-bubble spread shot forward to pop enemies. |
| Sewer Eel | Speed / Glass Cannon | Volt Discharge | High speed but fast hunger drain; unleashes chain lightning hitting all nearby targets. |
| Grime Puffer | Tank | Spike Nova | Slow but has high health; detonates a $360^\circ$ burst of piercing spikes. |
| Lantern Angler | Utility / Explorer | Blinding Flash | Possesses a built-in magnetic pull for scraps; flash-stuns and burns enemies ahead. |
| Ghost Koi | Specialized Phantom | Spirit Wave | Highly immune to toxins; releases a piercing soul-wave that grants brief invulnerability. |
| Dino Fish | Apex Leviathan | Apex Chomp | Secret endgame creature with colossal health and a massive lunging bite. |
Zones & Environmental Hazards
As the player descends deeper, they transition into more dangerous regions, marked by changing neon fog colors, rising water currents, and faster enemy spawn rates:
- The Drains (0m+): The starting zone with a green hue. Features standard Rats that swim erratically and toxic Gas clouds that drain health and hunger upon contact.
- Flooded Tunnels (200m+): Blue-hued zone where obstacles speed up and predatory Leeches begin spawning, which actively hunt down and lock onto the player.
- The Rot (700m+): An intense, reddish orange layer with highly aggressive, high-health variants of enemies.
- The Abyss (1300m+): A purple, hyper-fast terminal zone testing player reaction times against overwhelming hazard rates.
Controls
The game features responsive input styles adapted for both desktop and mobile layouts:
- Movement (PC):
W A S DorArrow Keysto tilt and navigate the creature around the circular inner perimeter of the tunnel. - Attack (PC):
Spacebartriggers the equipped creature's signature cooldown ability. - Mobile/Touch Controls: A drag-to-steer mechanism on the screen paired with a dedicated floating virtual "MOVE" button in the bottom right corner for attacking.
